iMac Whining

Everyone has there own specific needs from a computer, and everyone is different.....but I have to say the amount of complaining on this forum is unreal.

I bought my new 20" Imac on Tuesday. I love it! I am not a gamer, so I can't talk for those folks. As a regular home user that does word processing, uses the internet and doing video editing....well, I think it works great. I think the design is nice and it looks great on my desk. Last night I watched a DVD (action movie), and it looked great.

I guess I'm not sure what the issue is with being glossy, but then again...I'm a regular home user, not a gamer. As far as I'm concerned, I love the new system, and I'm looking forward to the new release of OSX.

Apple has a limited amount of computers and configurations, people except for a product "update" to be a significant change and not exclude many users. Honestly, the only two complaints is Apple having a weak Video Card, and a Glossy Display. The Display is an acceptable design decision, the Video Card is just apple putting "high quality components" in their machines.

I completely agree with you. As just a regular home user who does nothing very taxing I think the computer works absolutely wonderful. I copied all my information from my old computer to the new one very very quickly and am thrilled with my purchase. And it looks very pretty on my desk compared to my old quicksilver g4 tower

The only complaint i have is the lack of choices there are. The only things you can change are RAM and on the 24" the processor.

While the new iMac may be fine for you, there are legitimate reasons why it's not for other people.

Specifically: the glossy screen and a new video card which is supposedly not as powerful as the 7600GT you could get in the previous 24" iMac.

I some aspects, Apple has downgraded from what they offered before (although the lower price and faster processors are nice). People have a good reason to be upset.

I think they have a right to be disappointed, but upset I think is taking it to far. They offer a product, and you either like it or you do not.

I love the product and it does great for what I use it for. The glossy screen is not as big of an issue as some have made out but you really need to see for yourself in the end whether it will be to you. Don't trust other people's judgment, go there and see.

You can't change the processor without voiding the warranty. Unless you're talking about the custom build ordering. If that's what you're talking about, you can also add bigger hard drives as well

It was the pro multimedia users that kept mac going when no consumer was interested. The whole switch from IBM/Motorola was supposed to ensure rapid and more frequent product revisions. The record of the last year speaks for itself. The lowest end MacPro is still a grand more than the last G4 offering, which was still a smoking dual-1.67 mhz chip, and doesnt do weird off-the-wall blippy stuff like the MacIntel machines occasionally do. Check online and find out how much interest these machines still command.
Cant render as fast, ok, but, otherwise, they are bulletproof.

The Macpro is also a monster in terms of size, with no case upgrade since the G5. The Imac is cool, I guess, if you like to marry your machine to your monitor, and hope for the best. Whoever chose glossy as the standard should be fired immediately, and if its deliberate, then the company has lost its mind. Are they forcing people to buy a macpro, to fund the company's pet ventures like the iphone? How come I can buy a 500gig HD at Fry's for $119 and Apple charges $2200 for $400 of CPU, and a motherboard, and a $50 DVD drive, and the rest. I dont get it. This is the same plantation treatment that Mac users always laughed at Windoze users about. Snap out of it, Apple, make a DESKTOP someone can excited about. The Macbook Pro is pretty cool. I will grant them that. Of course, it really should be for 2k, and the REV A was, ummm, horrid.
