Today my iMac will not start, I have a ‘your computer restarted because of a problem’ error in black and when ever I restart I get same error.

I normally leave on overnight and error must have happened then. Was using yesterday with no issues.

I have tried safe mode but again same error, and also Command R on start but still no joy.

anyone have any other options. It is 2019 iMac on os Catalin.

Bad luck there. Can you start up to the boot chooser (hold Opt at boot)? Do you have a bootable USB or HD around to try? Also, make sure to unplug all accessories except kb/mouse.

Thanks it is a 27 inch. I am booked at Apple store tomorrow, hopefully our COVID tier will not change today.

Can you boot to INTERNET recovery?
This is NOT "the recovery partition".

Command-OPTION-R at boot.
If you use wifi, you'll need your wifi password.
The utilities take a while to load -- be patient.

If you can get to the internet utilities, try disk utility's "first aid" feature.
If that gives a good report, you could try re-installing the OS...

The reason I asked is the 27 inch has easily replaceable RAM while the 21.5 inch model has the RAM soldered in place. Bad RAM can cause all kinds of problems but I doubt that’s the case here.

Definitely try Fishffman’s advice and procedure. He’s thinking it’s a software issue while I’m thinking hardware. If he’s right his is the easier, cheaper fix. if his suggestions don’t work.... Good luck at the Apple Store tomorrow.

tried the internet recovery already and No luck. Will see what they say tomorrow, Mac only 4 months old so still on warranty

thank for all the advice

Just to update you, I took it to Apple and they have said it is hardware issue with RAM and will need to replace this, which is covered on warranty
