Imac with a bug?

Alright, i admit i am a windows guy, BOO, kill the rookie!, i know, but I got my first mac for free! G4 imac, So, i turn it on once, "PANIC CPU 0...Restart, restart... nothing, same thing.

push buton, see on screen folder with ? on it, then happy mac, then panic... cant open drive.....

The OS on your hard drive is fatally b0rked.

If you hold the mouse button down throughout the power-up cycle, it should eject the CD tray.

Insert the OS X CD you got with the machine

It will probably do the panic thing again, don't worry.

Boot up again, holding the C key down through the power-up cycle, that will force it to boot from the OS on the CD

Then, use the installer to do an erase and Install on the hard drive. If the hard drive does not show up as an option, go to the Installer Menu at the top of the screen in the first screen of the CD install, and run Disk Utility to Repair or Erase the hard drive. THen proceed to install the OS

If that doesn;t help, then you have a hardware problem of some sort.

Did you get it for free because it already had this problem or was it fine at some point? If it was fine and then started having this problem then you should give us as many clues as you can about what changed.

OK i did it, and im reinstalling OS X, i dont have tiger, but hey free is good, thx guys
