It's been a long time since iMac updated especially in terms of design. iMac 2019 still has an old design base on iMac 2012. iMac is the only non-T2 Mac computer and it is inevitable to change everything inside to add T2 security chip and its SSD or Nand. And iMac barely supports the newest CPU and GPU due to poor cooling system.
So I wondered about the design for the next-gen iMac base on XDR and Mac Pro 2019 because the design language is similar: lots of dots.
I actually saw XDR monitor several times in real life along with Mac Pro 2019 so why not design a new iMac base on XDR design? I know it's much thicker than iMac but nobody cares about the thickness anyway. I mean do they really need to keep the iMac's thickness? They should focus on performance and hardware instead of thickness.
CPU+GPU: Apple probably gonna stick with a desktop CPU and a full-size GPU chip unless they are interested in AMD APU, leaked in macOS Catalina 10.15.3 beta. It's not that thick to put it in XDR's display unless they compromise the panel.
Cooling solution: This can be an issue cause they can not add a bigger cooler as iMac Pro has. I think it can have a large but slim heatsink on the top part and then put 2~4 fans to cool it. There is a huge space on the top and bottom side so it shouldn't be a problem to put a large heatsink. I'm not sure if it's possible tho.
RAM: I think it might be a problem to design a new iMac with RAM upgradability from behind due to the height of RAMs. I think it would be better to allow the user to upgrade from the top or bottom side. But then, the motherboard needs to be quite large to cover.
PSU: This might be hard to put inside. Idk how tho.
IO: Shouldn't be a problem.
Motherboard: I guess it depends on the RAM slot.
SSD: It's a small part so it shouldn't be a problem.
Speaker: Hmmm... Perhaps they can put small speakers?
Well, this is my imagination so it wont be true or fact.
Any thoughts about a new iMac base on XDR design?
