Hi guys, hope you had a good time the last days :)

Now there is enough money to spend for a new computer and i´m wondering if the 24" core2Extreme (iMac) would be ok for Maya 2008?

I know it´s not recommended, rather a MacPro with a quadro FX, but i like the concept of the iMac and that it doesn´t need much energy.

I´m using maya 95% for real-time graphics (game) so i won´t render, etc.

I saw that the memory chip is PC2-5300 (maybe that´s "outdated" for 2008?)

Best..

You know what it will work but i'd get a mac Pro for this kind of work it's quite demanding the Xeons in the Mac Pro will work well and the full buffered ram will work better.

To answer your question on the ram the only reason it's low is because the iMac is a big laptop with a desktop Hard Drive. Meaning it uses laptop ram, processor, graphics card. Pretty much everything except Hard Drive it does have desktop hard drive.

saw the Ram...

Jup-thx for the reply. Saw the RAM chip at a resellers page for iMac and Laptop Macs. So this would be a nice illustration :)

I haven't used Maya, but I have worked in 3DS Max, and rendered in VIZ while modeling in Rhino (listening to pandora.com through firefox) and my comp was pretty good. Of course a MacPro would be better, but I don't have one.

Specs:

MacBook Pro 15"
Santa Rosa 2.4Gz C2D
2gig memory
7200 rpm HDD
256 vid ram

Slightly less than your iMac.

wow

thx, this is good news:)
glad to hear you´re doing well with max. Jepp I know a pro would be appropriate...but i´m too stingy ;-)

what do U think: will the new iMac be out the mid of 2008 and what might be the specs?!

In other words, what will I be probably missing when i order in february?
(i know it´s really speculative)
