I think there is a solution for the problem that many users encounter with the glossy screen glare found on all macs. Example... one can still have glass in front of the iMac or MBPro panel but without any glare what so ever. The solution is to replace the glass given by Apple with a special antiglare glass. Im not talking about the option already given in MBPros with the matte finishing. Im talking about glass with the same feeling when touched as glossy but without any glare due to its special make.

Ive seen a demo of such glass placed on a window and i thought there was no glass on this window. It has 100% glare exclusion and believe me i thought that the window frame was empty!
Perhaps im not the only one thinking about this solution, perhaps there are 3rd party providers already providing this solution. If you know plz notify.

If not, lets see what we can do about it! What do you say guys?

no comments? and i thought that there would be overwhelming commenting on this issue... i wonder why? maybe no one is interested? strange:confused:

The extremely glossy screen of the iMac has never really been an issue for me, especially considering how vibrant and bright it become if it needs to be.

I've also never liked anti-glare coatings on computer screens anyways. If you look closely, they give off a grainy texture with lots of color aberrations-- this is a side-effect of the anti-glare and how it diffuses light I guess. Anyways it makes the screen look like it's covered in a fine layer of dust, and it doesn't bold that well with me. Having a piece of non-intrusive glass over the screen doesn't do this, it allows the colors to come through naturally. If those anti-glare glass panels are confirmed to not do this, then it might be worth considering.

With a notebook I could argue more towards a matte display option, as you're always on the move with one and will never get the ideal lighting situation, but the iMac is meant to be a desktop for you own little studio environment, so you should place it in a spot with good lighting.

how much would it cost to get made in the size for the imac and that it holds in place , i wear glasses and this technic is not new i have no glare when i look through my glasses ,and certainly dont see grainy textures , this kind is used in optical lenses on photo cameras and telescopes and there are different types of coating , optical coating would be the one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_coating

i wear motorcycle helmets with visors and they are too optical correct

but you are right not many are interested in anti glare , most people seem to like to see reflections in the iMac , because if many would complain i am sure apple would react and offer a anti glare glass or other material then glass which does eliminate glare as a option

The non glare glass im talking about is perfect, there is no grainy texture which i despise also and im sure the colors of the display are the same with the glass that iMac has today, imagine that i couldnt tell that there was glass on that demo window, i tought i could pass through. I suppose if there was a issue with colors i would be able to tell of the glass, but i wasnt.

I have no idea but im willing to pay up to 200$ to make a new glass, i think its definatelly worth it.

maybe they are not interested because the antiglare glass apple provides... may i say... sucks! (sorry Apple)

i think it might be a cost issue and thats why Apple doesnt go for it

Ok ill try to look for it, but can someone tell me where do i get the plans of the i mac glass n stuff so i can order and cut precicelly the glass? and most importantly, how do i make the black panel the glass has? any ideas? any iMac part plans?

I don't have an issue with glare on my iMac, because it faces towards me. In contrast the screen on my MBP is always pointed slightly upwards, which means if I had upgraded my 2008 matte screen model to glossy I would be seeing the ceiling lights reflected in the screen.

Added together with the portability of the laptop, which means you cannot always position your workspace to reduce any reflections I think it's more important to have anti-glare options in the laptops.

Surelly MBpros have bigger issues on this matter but i believe if it can be done for the iMac then it can be done for all. I believe we must start of the easyest (iMac) and go to the hardest fitting (MBpro). But first there are 3 issues.
1. how can i take off the iMac glass
2. how can i see documented presice plans for the measurements of the glass?
3. how do i make the black border that the glass has?

p.s. i may ask for iMac 2D plans, but i certainly have nothing to do with espionage

Will be hard to get glass to match:

Without seeing it live, i think
1. the pins can be done.
2. the black border i believe it can almost be done
3. magnetic strip, i have no idea, of course if the magnet is on the body and the strip is only mettal then there is a chance

The main issue at this time i think is the glass size and special details that must be cut/carved so that its exactly dulicate as far as size i concerned. I think i need Apple 2D measure plans that will have the exact measuremements... any clue where i can get this?

Is the glass screen in some way connected to the rest of the body by some wire, or can i lift it up all the way and remove it?

Use a suction cup to lift it off the computer, be extremely careful with it! It's held on by magnets.
οk i will use those cups, but is the glass connected with something (eg. cable) to the body or can i pull it all the way up and separate it from the main body of the iMac?

It's just held on by magnets so you can remove it.

has anyone tried to place a antireflex tint on the glass? or hjas anyone seen those tints? do they alter colors?

I'm on this!

Hi there,

well seems like that im not the only one thinking about this. I did some excessive research on this and there is glas available for this special problem.

The Museum Glass wont be the solution because it's to thik.

Today I received the first estimate of costs for the window only, without any pins and stuff. My request was for the 21" version of the present iMac.
Well it's quite expensive!
There's a but, I've got another factory I requested a sample from, I'll let u know by the time I've got it and seen it.
So long,

George

Thanx for the info my friend, its great that someonelse is also looking for this like me :)
When you say that its quite expensive for the 21" what exactly do you mean, how mutch does it cost?

Also the big question would be to see if the colors or sharpness or the view in general is altered in any way when using the new glass, and to be honest im not quite sure about this, i think we are going to have an issue on this matter, but let not worry about this, its too early, let take things step by step and one at a time... sorry if i seemed negative
