I'm experiencing weirdness with my iMac and this is a first for me. I normally watch a movie via Front Row and fall asleep to it for whatever that's worth. Well, yesterday morning I woke up and the screen was black so I rebooted it several times and it came back on. I used the computer throughout the day and didn't experience any problems. This morning I wake up and the screen is black again but *this* time I can't seem to get anything to display despite a number of reboots!

It is an Intel based milky white iMac. The glowing light in the lower right of the bezel is glowing steady.

Help!!!!

I also just noticed that my keyboard doesn't seem to be powered either. It's like my iMac is asleep and won't wake up. I can hear the HD power up and feel the slight vibration of it when I place my hand on the computer but the screen is still black as it does when it sleeps.

Just tried booting into Safe Mode but nothing. I Googled my problem and read something about the battery on the motherboard? I'm wondering if the battery is easily accessible and if I have to buy a new one at an Apple Store or maybe I can just pick one up at Radio Shack?

Your imac is a bit on the young side to be needing a battery already. It's not to say it can't happen, but these batteries typically last upwards of 5-10 years before they finally die out.

I'd try resetting your pram, and see if that helps.

Also - as strange as this may sound - check that your ram is firmly seated in the slots. I had an imac act similarly to yours, and it ended being the ram was only partially seated.

Good luck.
