None of the 27" iMacs from 2009 to 2012 shipped with Mavericks (10.9). Normally Mavericks was not distributed on a CD.

Where did you get the "Install Mac OS Mavericks" CD?

What happens when you click on "Recovery 10.9.5" and press return? Could you take and post a picture of the result?

Hello
I only got the Cd today off ebay. (last resort try)
The reason I got mavericks is because it was on the reinstall bit

It looks like you are in Mac OS X Utilities, not Disk Utility, which makes sense for Recovery.
I see that the error wants you to connect to the internet. Have/can you connect to the internet?

Hello
See below image of what I get when I try and do Internet

Have you previously Downloaded (Apple calls it "Purchased") Mavericks using your current Apple ID? I do know that there are no direct links for Mavericks from the App Store, but Apple will let you download previously "purchased" macOS or if your Mac originally was shipped with Mavericks and you are doing Internet Recovery.

Let's try booting directly from the CD. With the Mavericks CD in the CD drive, shutdown the iMac, then press the c key on the keyboard (is it a wired keyboard?), hold the c key down (to boot from the CD), press the iMac power button while holding the c key until you boot from the CD (you should hear the CD drive working while it reads the CD). It should take you the Mac Utilities screen like you've seen previously, but you should be booted from the CD. Try "Reinstall OS X". What happens?

Currently on this and I can hear the Cd drive going

Well I'm afraid I can't help with a Mavericks install from a CD from eBay. I have no experience with that situation. Did the eBay CD come with any instructions? If no instructions, then maybe the eBay seller might provide some guidance.

Did your iMac come with any install Cds?
Late 2009 iMac 27" shipped with Snow Leopard (10.6.1 or 10.6.2 install DVD)
Mid 2010 iMac 27" shipped with Snow Leopard (10.6.3 or 10.6.4 install DVD)
Mid 2011 iMac 27" shipped with Snow Leopard (10.6.6 or 10.6.7 install DVD)

In all of the iMacs the maximum Apple supported macOS is High Sierra (10.13.6).

EDIT: I forgot to ask, what happens if you click "OK" on the screen you posted?

I got the disc from software repair World

OP:

Something for you to try.
Try this and get back to us.

1. Connect the Mac to a router via ETHERNET. Do not use wifi.
Move it if you have to, but use ethernet.

2. Press the power on button and try booting to internet recovery:
Command-OPTION-R
(it will take a while to load)

3. Does this work? Can you get to the Mac utilities?

WHY I'm asking you to do this:
We want to see if the iMac you have can do internet recovery before going further.

Hello
I have tried that but no luck. I'm currently downloading an older version onto a USB stick

Hello all
I have managed to crack it.. I had to to osx lion to get it to work.
Next question, can I update when I'm online with it?

About to say that each Mac typically only boots from installer DVD from that specific Mac. That means Mavericks is not the correct install disk.

Yes once you have the OS X installed, you can update.
Click Apple icon on the upper left, and System Update.
Repeat updates until you get App Store in Applications folder.
Once you have App Store then you should be able to go in and download the latest OS X supported by the computer.

Does this mean you now have Lion booting and you can get to the finder?
If you go to "about this Mac", does it tell you what model and what year it is?
