Hello

My iMac froze this morning and I couldn't do anything except hold the power button down to shut down. When I tried to start it up again it won't boot up

I hear the chime it loads to the grey screen with the apple but the spinning circles don't show underneath it and then it just hangs there and the fans come on

Is there anything I can try to get it to start up?

Many thanks

Ok after going on the apple support pages I tried to start up from the install disc which worked. I tried to do an archive and install which failed and was told to restart. I clicked restart and the mac loaded up very very very slowly.

My mac was set to automatically log in but now it loads to the username and password screen. Although I know the password I can't remember the username. Is there any way around this?

Is there anyway to get to the start up DVD from the password log in screen without having to reboot and holding c? I've tried every combination it could possible be now.
