thinking of it ive had a few keyboard issues so I am wondering if its my iMac.

had to get a new keyboard as id broken my apple one, and the two older apple ones I had from my mini and 2011 iMac, I had problems with. one occasionally randomly typed extra characters, and the other, randomly one key wouldnt work at any one time, this settled down to only be the Z key but had been others. weirdly at one time the O worked, the shift worked but I couldnt get a capital O by **** o only by caps lock. every other key worked with shift.

anyway I digress. bought a microsoft keyboard and mouse, mainly because they were white (I know). already hate it for one main reason, when I restart into bootcamp to play fallout I have to re-pair the mouse and keyboard, and do it again when I restart into Mac.

but thats not my complaint/question.

if I leave my Mac for more than 5 mins, moving the mouse is instantly fine, but it takes the keyboard about 3 or 4 keypresses before it wakes up and starts typing. once its awake I can type fine as I am doing right now. but its annoying that every time I sit down and go to type I have to remember to tap a key a few times otherwise the first word of what im typing will be missing the first 3 or 4 letters.

any ideas?

Buy a wired keyboard, or RF keyboard. They are fast to respond.
Bluetooth keyboards on Windows are always stuck with the sleeping issue, mainly to save battery.
What is the worst case scenario with a 3rd party bluetooth keyboard in Windows (and Mac OS)? You can't log-in from wake-up because you can't type the password. This is the issue with the Keychron mechanical keyboard.

It's not your iMac BT. I had similar problems with a Satechi BT keyboard which I eventually returned for a refund. In addition to wired models, the Apple Magic BT keyboard works fine. I also have a 2017 5K 27" iMac.
