hi, I am about to buy an iMacPro for 4k video editing. I am also a game enthusiast for gaming, so am excited about the power iMacPro that would probably give for 4k gaming.

Having surfed the net and youtube, it appears that iMacPro is not very steady on giving 4k @60fps in win 10 under bootcamp as crappy driver by AMD. Therefore, I think of an iMacPro plus eGPU with GTX1080ti which give very steady power for 4k gaming.

what say you about this combination? Is it able to play the game on iMacPro display by the eGPU?

An eGPU won't run on the internal screen as far as I can tell, so if you have a spare 4K screen about to connect it too why not.

I'm not sure the eGPU solutions can display the GPU video on the internal screens.
I think it has to be on an external screen connected to the eGPU box.

Are you talking about gaming in Windows or on macOS also?

I am new about Mac OS as I will change from PC which I have been using 7-8 years for my hardware system. That's why I'd like to buy an iMacPro. If it needs another external display, it would be quite inconvenient for me as limited space on my desk. I thought it could be displayed on the internal screen. OMG

Sometimes an eGPU will accelerate the internal screen in Windows. Or so I hear. Look for videos/reviews that talk about it and make a note of what enclosures they're using.

nVidia cards won't work inside an eGPU in High Sierra, but even if they did, Apple's "beta" eGPU support doesn't include acceleration of the internal screen (yet?).

Honestly though, don't buy an iMP for gaming. If that's why you want the Pro, then just buy an i7 iMac for your work and use the saved money to upgrade your Windows PC.

I had a similar concern about the performance of the iMac Pro on gaming. I found a review that showed the performance of the Vega 64 vs Titan Xp, and found that in gaming (playing DOOM 2016 on 34 inch 3440x1440) the difference between the two was negligible at best. Assuming the Vega 56 really does translate to between a 1070 or 1080, you really don't need to run an eGPU or external monitor with an NVIDIA card to get decent gaming performance with a base model iMac Pro.

Here's a link to an article that goes over what I'm talking about: http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...-significant-speed-gains-over-nvidia-titan-xp

4K @ 60FPS gaming is a challenge for most GPUs on the market. The GTX 1080 Ti eGPU may be able to do it if you connect it to a 4K external monitor. There's a workaround to route the eGPU acceleration to the iMac's internal display but performance will take a huge hit.

What do you mean , nvidia Cards won´t work in 10.13.2 ??? i say they work just fine
Just Start the MAC > at Login Screen Power On EGPU and Enjoy

Of course it does the vega 64 is the 6th fastest graphics card you can buy currently (according to gpu boss) with only the Nvidia 1080 and derivatives and the old Titan faster. It should run 4K gaming fine as well, nothing runs 5k gaming well with a single card the increase in pixels is massive.

Nope!
