iMacs, and time for a change?

I've ordered a new 5K 27inch iMac, I think it's my third now in the iMac series. I know the reason why I have bought it, and it's all down to productivity time, plus the 5K screen as my video production has moved up to 4k now.

But, I know I'll plonk the new machine on my desk and it will look no different to the last ELEVEN years worth of iMac's. Same curved stand, and the same, very old fashioned looking screen with the fat bezel. Ok the profile over the years had become thinner, but lets be honest, we don't really see this when working on a machine.

Have Apple missed a trick again this year by starting by creating a new, and stylish iMac form factor? You only need to look at the stand alone 27inch monitor to see what I mean. They could have relaunched the whole iMac brand on the last iteration when they introduced the 5K screen, a new design, and a new 5K monitor to sit along side.

Plus, isn't it time OSX needs to move away from the traditional folder, desktop file structure. The GUI is stale, especially as the Windows/OSX is in fact very similar. Square windows, file, folder blah blah Yes iOS and OSX have moves closer together over the years, but still, isn't it time for a revolution.....

What is not stylish about the current iMac? It is still gorgeous to look at.

If you want something new to spice up your room, I suggest you get a vase and some flowers for it.

And no, please don't touch the Mac file system. There's a reason we are here. The iOS way should stay where it is.

Lol vase and flowers. That's sort of thinking is why we are still using these same old designs. Time to do what Apple are famed for, think out of the box surely?

True in some points, but how long did Apple market against the "beige box" are they in danger of falling into the "aluminium square" don't defend what you know, otherwise things get stale! Like the layout of desktop/folders/files.

Just think how long the windows based GUI have been about!

Don't care about the iMac AIO - won't use one, but, the file system has been reliable and productive since at least System Seven.

You must have interesting conversations with your iMac, since it apparently isnt a tool for you, but a pet.

When beige computers were king, consumers weren't even interested in computers yet. There was no Google, MapQuest and Yahoo were huge, and eBay was a 5 million company with only a million users, and Flash was being used more and more. Apple was in the right place at the right time, but sadly so was pretty much every other computer company at the time.

At the core, the filesystem is still the same, but it is much more efficient than ever, and that matters a lot to the people who have to work with them on a daily basis.

I'm sure that Apple is working on a new design for the iMac, but it's better for them to focus on improving various technologies that will dictate where they go with it. And because technologies might come from a product like the Retina MacBook, they need to see how that works out for them, before they incorporate a disastrous idea for their next product.
