That's a good question.

If Apple has 'early access' to RDNA2... Then what does that mean? June? July? August?

A 23 inch iMac is rumoured for 2nd half this year.

Intel CPUs are only just shipping.

Add that to a WWDC 'end of June' and 'substantial' iMac release then that could mean much better GPUs in an iMac.

The RDNA2 is 50% more efficient than an RDNA1.

I'd say that the iMac starting at £1700 inc VAT should have 'SOME' access to that RDNA2 stack (and not rebadged RDNA1 gpus that will come as a by product of this new product stack.)

The consoles will probably be sold at a loss for their access to RDNA2 and the innovative IO systems eg in the PS5. That won't be cheap. And the PS5 will be around £499? But I'd expect a computer costing nearly four times that to have part of the RDNA2 stack in the iMac.

I don't see why iMacs should have to wait until the following year when PS5, X Thingy and PCs will have it this September.

This is the chance to pull off a grand standing gesture of intent. Something worthy of the prices Apple charges in stead of being GPU 2nd class citizens.

WWDC. June? The iMac to beat?

Azrael.

Based on what?

I can't find any specs for the Apple GPUs on your list.

The Xbox Series X at least (haven't looked up PS5) has a custom RDNA2 GPU -> 12 TFLOPs, 52 CUs at 1.825GHz
Up to 80 compute units, so probably more than 52 šŸ˜’

In the article you posted, that’s for Navi21 in general, which includes the Pro GPUs that are possibly only for the Mac Pro. I’m just saying, it seems like a lot of speculation based on very little information. ā€œUp toā€ means very little without knowing actual specs.

And it seems like you don’t know those, which is what I was asking about.
