Will an update happen soon/around that time as I am looking to upgrade my iMac at that point.

cool, out of interest how much would a non isight iMac g5 2.0 20" be worth around that point?

This tuesday is doubtful. If you can wait til april, you might as well as wait for june when Montevina is launched. Montevina based iMacs offer a true update/performance increases over the current alum imacs

Rumor has them being updated all the time. Apple is one of the most secretive companies on the planet when it comes to new releases and nobody knows what will happen when.

Anything else is just posing, ******** or wishful thinking. There are already plenty of threads about coming updates. You could read them now if you don't want to wait for the same replies to show up here.

How significant of a difference will Montevina make? I am ready to kill my current Mini for being so slow  I am trying to decide whether to buy a refurb 2.8 MHz with 2MB RAM for $1889 (and add two more MB RAM from OWC), or wait for Montevina. Waiting for Penryn does not seem to make sense. I want a system that will last through 3-5 years of OS and software improvements, and will be fast for video editing, web browsing (multiple sessions at a time), music and photos. I do not want a repeat of the current system that struggles with photos, or multiple browsers being open at the same time. Thanks.

First, not sure how far 4 MB of RAM will get you. I have 4 GB and I expect there is quite a difference.

Second, you will have to get 4GB RAM, as the 2 that it comes with is 2x1GB sticks, not 1x2GB.

I have a 2.8 with 4GB and a 750 drive that I got in August and love it. I waited so long as it was and am glad because the aluminum is something I really hoped for and find it much nice than the white, but I couldn't have ever held out for Penryn. Given that I don't think new Penryn iMacs will see much performance boost and since they aren't notebooks won't really take advantage of the power savings.

I agree. Apple may update the iMac soon based on Intel's desire to transition its products, but I expect Apple to wait until this summer to go to Penryn & Montevina. If Apple updates now, I'll be disappointed because I think that will push the Montevina upgrade to the fall.

Ok, ok, my mind slipped back a few years when things were MB  It is not that long ago that a 4MB game was HUGE, because the hard drive was 40MB. No idea what amount of RAM was the norm back then

Thanks for the explanation. It will still be worth it to spend the $100 to have 4GB :D
