Hi all,

Looks like my iMac has given up after 2 years of service. Last night when I turned it off everything was fine but after a while the top half of the screen suddently darkened. It is not pitch black but a lot darker than the bottom half that works fine.

I assume there is no other fix than having hardware replaced. What are my options here? Will apple always be the cheapest or are there third party options that might save me a buck or two.

I live in London, UK.

Thanks everyone

I have been having a LCD panel problem with my imac. The screen has gone completely white. The computer works fine with an external monitor.

I took it too 3 apple stores and all of them diagnosed is as an optical flex cable problem which they switched out and it didn't work. Then they said it was going to be the LCD panel that was bad. They wanted over $700 dollars plus labor to fix it. I know my way around computers so I got a LCD panel from another iMac and tried it and it wasn't the LCD panel. It still has the same problem. In my opinion most mac genius' won't be able to fix your problem because they are just guessing until they get it right.

Apple will never be the cheapest route.

Unfortunately for me I just have to get an another monitor and use the imac as a console.
