I am going to get an imac 27" but as you can see, by the time i order and get it delivered, it will be well past february and i really dont want to face yellow screen, flickering, cracked screen, noisy hardware e.c.t.

as you can see on buyers guide, the imacs are half way on their average product cycle.

1. do you think that the imac will be updated with notable spec bump and hardware fix *cough*yes you yellow screen*cough*

2. do you think it will it follow the average trend? so i could get a new rev b imac in lets say may

3. what sort of upgrades do you think there will be? seeing that its just a spec bump, and the specs now are pretty modern.

damn, i just realised the announcement and then release times... >:/

thanks-

Yes, you should wait until Rev B, that's what my dad is doing. It will benefit you because all the bugs would be worked out, and you'd probably get some updated specs. When to expect rev B? Anytime from March-June. The orignal aluminum iMac was introduced in August 2007, and updated in April 2008 and March 2009. The new 27" iMacs were introduced in October 2009 and will probably be updated in the spring, although I think late spring (maybe during WWDC '10) they will be updated. I highly suggest you wait as long as you could until rev b comes.

CPU: Unless Intel comes up with new quad cores (Lynnfield transaction to 32nm), they'll stay the same, but Intel just released 32nm Clarkdale which may find its way to the next iMac and it uses the same socket as current quads (Lynnfield) so it would be easy for Apple.

GPU: I really hope Apple is going to use ATI Mobile Radeon 5000 series as they are a lot faster than nVidia's 300M series. This is impossible to say yet but ATI 5850 is suitable for high-end iMac and it would be a great boost, but it depends on Apple

Everything else will likely remain the same but they really need to fix the display problem.

WWDC '10 would be ideal for release but earlier release like April sounds possible as well.

hmm..

not too far off if your speculations are correct... its just waiting another few months...

i need a new gadget to pass my time...

thanks- that gpu thing you said got my hopes up a little... but when you said processor will be same for next, that made me think that the ones after will have brand new even better ones! nooooo!

I received my i7 earlier this week and it appears to be perfect. No dead or stuck pixels, no noise, no flickering, and if there is any yellow tint to the screen I can't see it.

It's a week 03, so hopefully they have sorted out the issues. This is my first experience with a mac, and so far I am enjoying it. :)

I know it sucks if the CPUs are the same but simply, there are no faster CPUs available that suits for iMac. Okay there is Core i5 670 "Clarkdale" but it's dual core so even though it has clock speed of 3.46GHz and it's manufactured using 32nm method, it isn't faster than the current i7 in iMac and because it's dual core, it would be odd in high-end iMac because it has quad core now (consumers rely on amount of cores and clock speed).

IF Lynnfield goes 32nm in mid 2010, we'll likely see them in iMacs BUT there is no confirmation of it yet.

New GPUs must happen though because current GPUs used in iMacs are almost ancient and Apple has to update something in the iMac anyway
