A VERY long interaction (4 hours in total) with Apple Support - to no avail - led me to some research. My iMac (2017 Intel) doesn't have Air Play. Support had no idea why. Wanted to patch it with my iPhone, made all sorts of irrelevant claims and were clueless. BUT - it does seem that hardware requirement for an iMac to have Air Play are Top Secret.
Does anyone know of a detailed and reliable list regarding iMacs and Air Play?

Thank you! It's what I found on a couple of Youtube channels. Why Apple couldn't be bothered to tell is another question....

Do you mean the real-life Apple Support ...... or the NON-Apple ASC forums?

Do you have a link to the posts you made on the later? TIA if you have. ?

Yet I can airplay to my 2018 intel mac mini.

It's probably an inadvertent omission from Apple since the 2018 MacBook Air and Pro can do it so it does not require a dGPU for Intel machines. Or it is just not officially supported on the 2018 Mac mini so they don't list it.
