In an extension to my post on the second page of another thread.

Accordinging to the rumors of the iMacs being shipped via boat and trans-Pacific travel time, today would be the earliest possible release.

Earnings call Wednesday

Last year, MacBook Pros released around April 13th with a Q2 earnings call around April 20th.

Historically Apple says one of two things about Macs during earnings calls.

They either talk about just released products, last year the iPad and MacBook Pros.

Or they say "We have great things in the pipeline" which historically means several months down the line.

I think that with the earnings call Wednesday, they will either release the new iMacs today, or wait 2-4 weeks. If it was next Tuesday, they would move it up and air freight some of the iMacs to announce it this week.

Your Thoughts :)

My thoughts are that if its not today, my sanity will suffer greatly.

Yep, I decided not to buy an iMac or any other Mac that didn't have Thunderbolt or USB 3 (which won't happen till the end of the year at the earliest).

USB 2 sucks and every hard drive vendor wants an extra $30 for FireWire 400 and even more for FireWire 800.

It's sad when things like the Drobo have 4 or 5 drives and operate slower than a single FireWire 400 drive.

A sandy bridge i7 iMac with thunderbolt for storage will kill 4-core Mac Pro's in performance until they are upgraded in 6 months or more, sometime late 2011.

And at least one vendor at NAB announced a Thunderbolt to PCIe expansion chassis.

Oooooo the possibilitiesl :)

You guys shouldn't get my hopes up for today. That's just cruel.

I suppose a possibility of a refresh today as there's the Financial Report tomorrow so Apple could then say something like "....and we've just refreshed the popular iMac range which we forsee driving sales in the desktop market in the next quarter". However, my inclination is there will be no refresh today - possibly due to it being a four day week with Good Friday having a bearing on this. If nothing today I think we may have another couple of weeks wait before we see the iMac refresh - next week we have Easter Monday as a public holiday and I'm not sure wether Apple would do a Tuesday refresh the day after a public holiday?

It's all just idle speculation on my part - only Apple know when, how and where:)

But you're such a great artist antman! Never give up! Is there normally a specific time when the apple site would go down?

They usually update all international sites at once from my experience.
Last time they went down it was in the early hours (6AMish) Cupertino time.

I've been wrong though.

On a side note its possible that they would refresh them today to drive stocks higher in the light of tomorrow. Not 100% sure thats how it works since ive only ever traded in commodities. But we shall see!

I believe for the macbook pro refresh in February the site went down around 6AM EST. I looked up the macrumors announcement post to confirm my memory, and as you can see here, the specs and announcement were up by 8:35 EST... so assuming the site was down for an hour or two, 6AM EST sounds about right.

Which means we may or may not have about 20 minutes to find out if it's happening today ;)

Granted, my guess is still next week.

EDIT** and there was leaked info for the MBP's with specs and such by 6:28 EST.

Not today

Mmm, a quick look at Apple Stores around the world shows no delivery problems: 24 hours everywhere.
Which indicates that there won't be any new iMacs before ... next tuesday, maybe?

Meaningful observations. I would place my bets on next Tuesday at the earliest, and not tomorrow.

Well it looks like thats a no-go on today but oh well if were going on Brian Tongs observations then were now counting down instead of up to the end of the month =].

Just need something to take my mind of this wait, gah.

(At least) Another seven days of waiting...
:(

I have a theory that there will be no refreshed iMacs for the month of April. Hopefully we'll finally get the refreshed iMac the 3rd of May?

Once Apple announces the conference call date, they do not announce any new products for sale before the quarter earnings are reported. Nothing will come until after tomorrow.

I know. That doesn't mean your reasoning cannot appeal to me and make me sad!

Another week without a desktop computer.
