Image capture - files with same names?

So as the subject implies.. I'm wondering if someone can tell me how Image Capture handles duplicate file names when importing? I've been importing into the same folder for years... because I have yet to organize my photos (HUGE project)... I have been using Image Capture since I got my MacBook Pro in 2016... That's a lot of photos. I am used to Windows telling me that there is a file with that name, before doing anything. But how does Image Capture handle this? I really hope I haven't lost photos. I never really thought about it before. Anyone know?? Thanks!

As I recollect it will add a 1, 2, ... to the name for the extra copies.
