Image Capture problem

I don't know if anyone has seen these issues before - or has any ideas as to how to fix it. I use a SanDisk card reader to upload images to my iMac G5 from a compact flash card out of my digital camera. Image capture usually sees the card when I insert it into the reader, but not always (problem #1). Very often, especially lately, Image Capture is not able to read the images off the card -- it hangs after the first image (problem #2). I have to resrt to a painfully slow "photorescue" program that reads all information of fthe CF card.

Problem #3 is that Image Capture often sees the old images I had on the CF card, even if I have reformatted the card between uses. It is like I can't get it to refresh the reading of the card.

Any ideas, insights, ordirection would be appreciated.
