What if the tables were reversed and the G5 and Mac Pro 1,1 through 5,1 series were the trashcan design (or something similarly minimalist like the G4 Cube). Then with 6,1 Apple drops the tower form factor on us. Imagine their marketing bullet points:

* Industry standard PCIe slots!
* Dual CPU options!
* Easy CPU upgrades!
* Internal drive bays!
* $500 less expensive!

Oh, but it's heavier and you'll need to sacrifice more space on your floor or desk.
Sorry about that!

If the G5s and cMP didn't have any of those from the get go we would all be on Windows today and Apple would've quit making MacPros years ago...

Then I probably wouldn't be typing this on the big goofy PC I was just forced to buy.

5 fans instead of 1 (even though it doesn't means better cooling, but Apple will make this a selling point).

Quad GPU option.

3x super fast PCIe SSD option.

128G RAM option.

Dual internal optical drive option. (Regardless of its useful today, Apple will make this another selling point)

Super powerful 980W PSU (it's nothing in the PC world. But again, Apple will make this a selling point).

Easy access USB / thunderbolt port in the front panel.

Zero tool require to upgrade HDD, GPU, RAM.

Internal HDD bay is not good enough now, should make it hot swappable as well.

However, I am quite sure they will increase the price, but not lower it.

I would say "at long last, our industry-wide nightmare is over".
