Hi,
Just got my 15" Powerbook yesterday. Neat unit. In Mail, is there a way to do away with the viewer window. In my XP days, I was always told that if you used the viewer window, you could allow an e-mail to open and thereby allow a virus to be released. Is that so with Mail??
Also, How do I save an e-mail to a folder for future reference??? Couldn't find that last nite.
Thanks.
Frank

well there are no, or nearly no viruses for os x .
and, mail is "perhaps" *g* not written as bugy as outlook express or similiar stuff

Ok...first...to get rid of the viewer, look a the bar at the top of the preview pane, it should have a little icon that looks like an = sign. Click and drag that to the bottom of the mail window.... viola, no more preview pane.

Saving mail to a folder is easy too...on click on the Mailboxes icon, it will bring up the list of mail/trash etc folders. Ctrl Click on this list and do NEW MAILBOX, name it and make sure the location is ON MY MAC and you'll get a mail box at the bottom of the list.

If you want subfolders do the same but make the folder name something like this:

FolderOne/Subfolder

and it'll nest em.

Hope that helps!

Cool stuff. I installed OfficeX too. Entourage is easier for me since it looks a lot like my old Outlook. But I've heard so much about how good Mail is I want to learn it. Seems neat too. Do either Mail or Entourage mail programs link with .mac, which I also have on order. I should be getting my instal pac today or tomorrow. I was tempted yesterday when I set up my mac to take the 60 day free .mac, but I didn't know if I could convert that freebie to the account I'm getting from Apple?? Anyone know??

Reaquainting with mac and loving it!!!

Mail definitely links with .Mac (it's an Apple product, dammit!)... you just have to select .Mac when you create a new account and then type in your info and boom-bada-boom.

If you've already ordered your .Mac then I'll be a little skeptical whether or not you could add it to your trial account... but I'm not sure since I didn't order the package and just got it online.

edit: According to Bear, seems it works!

You can convert a .mac trial into a full account no matter which way you pay for the first year. All you get in the mail really is a CD, some paperwork and an activation code. Although if you're going to get the stuff today, you may as well wait for it.

.Mac does not integrate with Entrourage and on that let me say this...

I'd recommend NOT using Entourage if you can help it. Address Book integrates with iCal, Mail and iChat in a way that Entourage does not. By keeping addresses in Entourage you lose the way cool integration on iChat that lists people by their REAL name not just AIM handle, not to mention to be able to see who's on ur iChat list when logged into Mail.

As a new switcher, my advice to you from another switcher is don't get hung up in what looks familiar, you might miss some way cool stuff if you do. :)

Mail integrates into your .Mac account very smoothly also.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I agree. Macs are loads of fun. It's a bit of a learning curve, but a fun learning curve<g>. I'm sure it's worth the ride<g>.

If you like Mail on Jaguar, wait till you see Mail on Panther. Sweet. The new features are described on the Apple Panther page. Enjoy!

Mail over Entourage right? May be I should give Mail a try as well.. can I export Entourage to Mail, I already have over 100 email for the past three days that I dont want to lose...
