Hi,
After updating to 2.1, my IMAP email settings for gmail are not "pushing" my email to my phone. Before I would get email within 5-15 minutes, now I have to check manually.

All my gmail IMAP account settings are still on the phone, I double checked everything.

IMAP isn't "push". Your iPhone will send a periodic request to GMail to check for new mail as long as the Fetch period isn't set to "manually". Go to Settings/Fetch New Data and check the period for Fetch. Also go to the advanced setting at the bottom of that page and check that GMail is set to Fetch, not Manual.

My GMail is working fine, but I've had lots of down periods recently with GMail where my Mac's Mail client wouldn't connect for a while. I didn't notice anything on the iPhone since 90% of the time I'm working with email on a computer.

yea, I understand IMAP is not push. Hence my quotation marks.
But it use to notify me of new emails every 5-15 minutes but now it doesn't do anything. It shows the time it last updated as the last time I manually checked.

All the settings are in order on the phone. Not sure what is causing this.

Same problem here

IMAP with Google Apps used to work just fine before 2.1. Now it just doesn't check for them more often than not.

I would delete the account and re-add it to the phone.

I'm using Gmail IMAP and have had no problems since updating to 2.1, so I don't think it's a 2.1 bug per se, but maybe something got screwed up (like trying to check for mail while installing 2.1). I dunno... but try re-adding the account.

iPhone's Mail will check the account when you go to the Inbox anyway, so checking the last updated time won't tell you anything.

All I can suggest is to follow the advice to reconfigure the account.

The iPhone physically can't check with Fetch every 5 minutes unless you may access Mail.app or sometimes it checks when you unlock the phone.

Most fixes for little things like that, just restore the phone. Otherwise if your settings are correct then something is wrong with your connection.

Google Apps

I'm all of a sudden having the same problem. I have both a gmail and a google app account on my iphone. My gmail works fine, but my google apps no longer works syncs via imap. I tried to delete and reload the google apps account, but now it won't even activate the account on my handset. What is going on?

Same issue here, having to manually update it even though it is on fetch every 15 minutes (not working 70% of the time). Reading email on the iPhone is also not being synced back to Mail even hours after reading the email.

Well.. I was hit with the same problem this morning :(

I had 4 emails sitting in Gmail since last night, none of them appeared on my phone. I guess we play the waiting once again until Apple release a fix for it.

... sigh....

Yep

Had the same problem with gmail and my first gen iphone. Deleting the account on my iphone and then adding it fixed the problem.

I can not check my gmail at all on both my MacBook and iPhone. It keeps popping up "can not connect to server IMAP.gmail" or some suchmessage and on my MacBook it just keeps popping up for me to re enter my password over and over. This is NOT cool. What can I do?
