If that was possible, there won't be any kidiot rants about not being able to unlock their iOS 4.1 baseband.

It's not possible.

you trickster... not possible, only possible w/ the first generation iPhone (2G).

I dont think its possible either.
Even with the 2G iphone I think it only worked for firmware 1.1.2 or something.
Why do you need to change it? Stolen item?

The 2G you can downgrade to whatever fw needed if you want to use it AFIK....
The thing w/ models that use the 3G wireless tech is that the IMEI is more in depth inside and makes it practically impossible; for the 2G it was possible because it only had EDGE...

My guess is either the OP stole it or bought it from someone who stole it and they blocked that IMEI... There might be a small possibility that the OP wants to get cheaper data plans by tricking the cellphone company that is a simpler phone, but still that's considered stealing in any country and is illegal everywhere... Still, I want to know their excuse for doing it?

Porque quieres cambiar el IMEI del iPhone?

I see.
But I heard people have been having a really hard time trying to downgrade from 3.1.2 for example down to 1.1 etc...
You gotta jump thru so many hoops to get it back down there again its very painfull:)

It is in fact very possible to Spoof the IMEI, (however even when you believe that it is a gray area in Chile, just because it is not enforce, believe me it is illegal, that violate international agreements since in chile the iPhone is an "imported" product) regardless in the states is highly illegal and discussing it here is against the forums rules.

Google is always your friend ;)

You can spoof the IMEI for an app to work illegaly, but you can't spoof your IMEI of the iPhone that carriers checks (except the 2G)....

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; es-es) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence mates, I was trying to do it for a friend I dont know her reasons. Btw I look over internet and tech support stores here, and they say the same as you so she is pretty screwed up. Thanks anyway mates.

Hello everybody!
Thanks a lot for all Dev teams ppl who did greats apps to release our high-cost-and-very-expensive devices! :)

Well... theres is a software that you can use to change iMei on your 3G, 3GS and 2G iPhone. If you look around, you fill some download sites (megaupload not anymore.. ) and it´s called "Imera" and is made Dev-Team (same of RedSn0w sw). It have some restrictions. like Baseband, BL, and FW versions... but if you work around, you can get your goal..

For the other membs: There is a lot of valid reasons that you need to change your iMei, others than a stolen device.

In example: Here in Argentina, and the same at Chile and other Third World Countries, spy phones are a very common practice... So, if you are a VIP, certainly you have your phone line with "echoes"...
Other one: Here, the Carriers are 3 : "Movistar", "Claro" and "Personal". If you buy an iPhone, and during the guarantee period, your device crash, or have any problem, the Cell company didn t try to repair it... They just change your broken item for other one working. And put the old at BlackList...
Then, you can still use (if you repair it) as an iPod... Or just out of your country...

This is another way to resolve iMei problems. You can "exchange" the board with other user of the same model, who have blocked iMei in the other country for your blocked one... Then you can use a board blacklisted in Argentina, at Chile without any problem.
Actually, this happens everyday with a lot of "Service shops" who offer "iMei block solution" to their customers, They receive blacklisted boards from neighbor countries and send the blisted ones from here to there..

Sorry if my english is not the best.. but i m pretty sure that you got the idea...

If need more info, just send me an email ; surenio@ciudad.com.ar

Have a nice day!
