iMessage & Battery Life

Since jumping on the public beta about a month ago I have felt that despite a few hiccups the battery life has been about as expected for a beta.

In terms of % of battery load I have noticed that iMessage is always at or near the top. It currently stands at 31% with no other apps over 10%. Is this the product of the upgraded features in iOS 10? Has anyone else noticed this? I am also running iOS 9 on my iPad Pro and it has a cellular connection. I wonder on the times that I don't switch that to airplane mode if the constant syncing has any connection to battery life.

Are you using other things less? That would make the % of Messages higher.

No. No change in usage pattern. Just was one of the major differences I noticed from iOS 9.3 to 10 in terms of battery life.

Same here, 30% for 24 hours but on 9.x it's at about 10% every day

I noticed in terms of iMessage activation that the phone tries to activate more often (almost once every other day) if you don't have SMS enabled on your carrier plan. Earlier this was just maybe once a month.

That only happens when you reboot frequently and/or live in regions where carrier restrictions exist.

As for the OP, I think what everyone's asking is Do you use iMessage frequently? This could imply that the new features in iOS 10 Messages consequentially draw more power, despite your consistent usage pattern.
