How do you start a conversation? Me and my friend are trying right now and we can't figure it out. I've tried using his email, and he's tried using my number. Any help?

Use his Apple ID email. That worked for me

I tried that. Did you just type it into a new message in the text messaging app? That's what I did and nothing happened.

My cousin had the option to either use my phone number or email. We tried both and both worked just fine.

go Settings>Messages>Receive at> and add the email you are trying to reach him at, do this for both ends.

Wait. That's where messages sent to you are received - not where messages you send to others go.
