iMessage - Desktop Client Version

So, I love iMessage but I'd love to be able to text and message people from a computer, the idea of being able to go from ANY device to ANY device is great, until you sit down at a computer.

We should all put in a feature request for iChat for it. Seriously.

Yes, really there's some confusion now with iOS 5. I mean there's iChat and FaceTime on Macs. Then there's iMessage and FaceTime on iOS. I really hope Apple... That's the thing though. I'm not sure how to resolve it best. What I'd like to have is iMessage and FaceTime functionality on iOS and OS X. The best way I feel to do that would be to lose iChat on Macs and just have iMessage and FaceTime as an integrated app on OS X. Not sure what it'd be called though.

^ The good thing about having them integrated together would be the experience would be more like Skype.

Unless iMessage got bundled up with Mail on OS X? That'd seem weird though...

There is a ton of disconnect between iOS and lion at the moment. Contacts vs Address Book. ICal vs Calendar.

Another weird thing is photo albums in iPhoto vs albums on your device. I imagine that the logic behind syncing stuff like that is a nightmare. But, it feels ****** to have to import photos into iPhoto and then add to an album, and then sync back to my device. Yes, I know I can the photos into an album on my device, but that album doesn't sync to iPhoto.

I really hope Apple spends the next year perfectly integrating all of these technologies. They are sitting on a super badass thing.

I think it would be a better idea to integrate iMessage into iChat and then create an iOS app for it that also includes SMS(for the iPhone and possibly 3G iPads, anyway).

I've been really hoping for something like this too. To me, who does not understand how complex it might be, I don't see why they just can't update iChat to communicate with iMessage. I chat with my wife all day from work while she is at home. Instead of having to use Meebo or something on iOS to do Google talk, it would be great to use what is already built in.

Yeah. Having a PC client is basically the only thing I miss coming from using Google Voice (with which I could send/receive texts via a website).

iChat should change to iMessage. iMessage should also integrate social networks. Should be consistent on all devices.

I really thought they were going to update iChat to be able to talk to iMessage....its a lot easier to chat on my mac than my phone.

I just reckon iMessage should stay as part of the Messages app on iPhones. And it should be uniform across iOS.

Perhaps as importantly, iChat's not as nice a name as iMessage. In a few months, after iChat's disappeared, Apple could reinvent it as an innovative new app. But right now it's got that connotation of being to do with OS X-the older versions of OS X. It needs revitalising-in lots of ways.

Technically, you can have messages sent to your iMessage forwarded to an email correct? In theory, you could set up iChat to recieve messages sent to the account linked to that apple email right? or am I missing someting that would break the link in that chain..

I'm not entirely sure. But if you're right it's a step in the right direction. Perhaps a bit of a simpler method though would be appreciated by the standard mac user community.

Yea, having a desktop version was probably the first question I had when I heard about the iMessage. I have been trying to get my SMS to work on my computer via iPhone but most solution require you to JB the phone which I would prefer not to do. I would be nice when I'm receive a text on my phone it would just come through on iChat and not having to switch between my keyboard and my phone. And frankly other then that I still use whatsapp more than iMessage.

I was searching for something like this for so long. I am currently using a imessage client from http://imessageforwindows.com.
It's very good and working flawless

Phishing scam. No one should download this. The "as seen on" BS should be an obvious clue that this is just an attempt at stealing your apple ID and passwords, assuming it even runs. Can't be bothered to fill out the surveys to find out.

It doesnt do non imessages though does it? (normal SMS)
