iMessage doesn't know I've sold my iPhone

Hi, I have a problem here that I'm unsure of how to solve.

Since iOS5 was released I upgraded to it and communicated with the majority of my contacts via iMessage. Over a week ago I sold my iPhone and no longer have a smart phone of any kind. Now, when contacts try to send me a text message it still gets sent as an iMessage and actually gets a 'Delivered' confirmation. Nobody has been able to contact me this past week because of this!

I had a similar situation with WhatsApp, but I sent an email to them and they removed my number from their servers immediately. Is there any way I could get Apple do the same thing?

Do you know the person you sold your iPhone to?
If you do you need to get them to sign out of your Apple ID in the messages settings.
They are probably receiving all your messages!
If you don't know them maybe try logging into your Apple ID account on the web or in iTunes and changing your password, this should then at least stop the messages being delivered to your old phone.

Assuming you have logged out of your accounts and reset your phone to defaults before you sold it, you souls be getting any iMessages as emails to the account you had set it up under. At last thats what happened to me.

Hmm, well I have most definitely not been receiving the iMessages as emails.

The iPhone was properly erased and set up as a new iPhone so I'm pretty sure the new owner wouldn't be receiving my messages. I've changed my password anyway to see if that helps.

Properly erased, but what about the SIM? Was the SIM still in the iPhone?

Same here...

I bought a new 4S and gave my old 3G to my son. The 3G has been restored to factory settings twice already with a different SIM card in it. Now everytime I send or recieve an an iMessage it lands on both devices simoultaneously. Not sure what to do next.

Turn off iMessage and sign out of your Apple ID. I'm guessing you are signed into the same apple ID so you can download the same OLD apps you already purchased for your son. This is where the problem is. Only sign in that Apple ID when downloading apps. Once completed sign out. Otherwise under Messages turn off iMessage.
