iMessage & iCloud.

Here goes 2 for the price of one

iMessage, I dont think I fully understand the concept of this, I have a iPhone4 and an iPad2 is it possible to get my txts from my iPhone to show on my iPad because I cant seem to make it happen. Or am I completely missing the point

iCloud, when I first upgraded to iOS5 I thought well I have nearly 15gb of songs apps and data on my iPad so I will get an extra 10gb so can completely back up my whole iPad to icloud. Seems I totally misunderstood this as when backing up I am using less than 1gb of data, non of my music appears to be there or my apps. I understand now regarding the apps can just be downloaded from iCloud but non of music is there and most of it is ripped from my CD collection. So now I have bought an extra 10gb of iCloud space and cant use it or can I, can I use it for anything else like putting my Aperture library there.

Any help with either of these two issues would be appreciated.

For iMessage, you should be able to set up your iPad to accept iMessages from your iCloud email. Your phone should be set up to receive from both your phone number AND iCloud email. Your iPad will only receive iMessages and not regular SMS texts.

As far as iCloud back up, it's the same as backing up to iTunes except that the data is stored on Apple's servers instead of on your computer. When you back up to your computer it never backed up your music, only contacts, messages, photos from camera roll, app data etc. It works the same for iCloud. Only those things are backed up to iCloud. If you go into settings/iCloud/storage&backup/magage storage/your iPhone, you'll see how much data each app is backing up. It doesn't back up the app itself, only the data saved within it. If you take a lot of pictures with your phone then having more storage space may be a good idea to ensure you never lose any of them. I have about 300 photos and 30 videos on my camera roll right now which eats up over 3GB of back up space. If you use Photo Stream or upload the photos from your phone to your computer everyday, you may not need the extra iCloud storage and could stick with the free 5GB.

So I can't have my iPhones SMS texts. On my iPad.

Regarding the storage if you can't backup your music why would you need more than 5gb

I don't believe so. Even if you have 3G iPad, I don't believe it is capable of SMS text messaging.

As far as storage, I already mentioned that if you have a lot pictures more storage may be a good idea. Some people back up a lot of documents, too. But for most people, 5GB is plenty.

Thank you both for clearing that up for me. Just a shame I wasted £14 on extra cloud space
