iMessage keeps on crashing

It all started when I tried to test iMessage by sending one to myself.
Everything worked fine but when I tried to leave the conversation by clicking the Messages button at the top left the app crashed.
And it keeps on crashing ever since. I can even receive and see normal sms but when i try to leave a convo to see another via Messages it crashes.

I tried rebooting the device a couple of times but it didn't work. Any insight on the matter?

Mine always fails when i try to send it to my apple id or @me email

@iad4m : close messages.app and then quit it entirely from the running-apps tray (double-click home button). Then try again. Apps stay running even after a reboot.

I'm afraid I already tried that before with no success

iphone 4 16gb. ever since updating to ios5 i have also had issues with my messages app crashing/freezing/etc. SO ANNOYING! I've done a reset, I close out running apps.. still is likely to crash when I get a message and open it up (imessage & sms).
