Can't duplicate. The incoming iMessages account is configured on your iPad, yes? Are you sending from the same or a different iMessages account on another device?

The main problem with iMessages so far is that since there is no Buddy List then whoever is messaging you has to have your contact on their phone and including all the information.

IF the person messaging you only has your phone# but not your email then you will only get it on your iphone. The ideal thing is that your friends always iMessage you using the email address and not your phone number but that means they need to have your email in their contacts as well (or enter it manually).

Unfortunately the our iPad is my wife's, so I don't have access to it at the moment to troubleshoot. I do know that she was able to message my iPhone last night using my own account (it popped up on my iPhone as "Myself"). Check the Messages setting and confirm that both the phone number AND the iCloud e-mail that is set up on the iPad are set to receive all inbound messages.

Here's how I got it to work:

on my iPad 2 I have "receive at" set to my apple ID

on my iPhone 4 I have "receive at" set to both my apple ID and phone number

on my iPhone 4 I have "caller ID" set as my apple ID

When my friends send me an iMessage to my apple ID, I get it on both devices. When I reply to such messages, my reply gets pushed to the other device as well.

Ok I got it to work by getting a frend to message me to my email address, but it opens 2 conversations. Its pretty stupid. The settings in iPhone are sent to send all messages to my phone number and my me.com

If I start the conversation on my iPhone then move to my iPad I have to start a whole new conversation, right?

I also noticed that when I'm sending it from my iPad I come up on their phone as my apple id not as a contact in their phone. Ehhh

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

It's not been very well thought out, I'm just gonna stick with Whatsapp I think.

That's what I have to do as well since not everyone I know will be using iOS5.

I think it depends on what you've selected as your iMessage Caller ID on the iPhone. If it's your Apple ID and you've also set that as "Receive At" on your iPad, then the conversation you started on the iPhone can carry on. I haven't tested what happens if your Caller ID is your phone number.

Your friends need to add your Apple ID e-mail address into your contact information. Then you'll show up as a name rather than the ID.
