Hey yall.
Using iMessage on macosx. When i create a new message, i can type in a person's name and it will make several automatic suggestions based on how many of my contacts match the search criteria. However, I cannot search for one important person - my wife! She does not show up in the suggestions. The only way to send a New message to her is type in her phone number OR search for her previous conversation on the left column. Anyone have any idea whats going on here???

Check to see what sync service you have her contact saved to. For instance iCloud, Gmail, etc. Although something similar is happening to me, but it does find my contacts, I only use iCloud but it doesn't immediately show messages from one person and that person is also in a group text that's straight iPhones. I have to do the search thing you mentioned and it's duplicating the issue on my iPhone X too. On my iPhone it's even more weird as it will show the person has been removed from the group message and when she replies it shows she's back. I submitted a bug report for iOS 12 on it but not macOS beta. Worse comes to worse. remove her contact with Messages closed, then add her contact back and see if that links back to her messages, if not you might have to remove the whole message thread to fix it. Something similar happened in iOS 11 betas and High Sierra betas.

Did you try Siri to do that?
