Anyone else seeing just blank conversations? I have no issue writing to someone, but it won't load all the old stuff. I know it's a beta, just wondering if there is an easy solution, or if it's just sit and wait.

I thought it wouldn't show any iMessages prior to when iMessage was enabled on the device, like with iPads & iPhones.

And the same problem appeared on my mac with yosemite. In the /Library/Messages folder, there is chat.db file (4 kb) and there is also chat.db.incompatible.v7006.sqlitedb file (38,6 mb). I thought that "incompatible" file was been moved from my "old" mavericks system. And i changed its name to chat.db -of course i saved original chat.db file (4 kb) to another location-. But it didn't work for me. Any idea?

EDIT: Then i rebooted the system and my problem was gone. In brief; the solution is changing the file's name as i did.

Has this been fixed at all? I'm running DP4 and still only have the new messages that have been received since installing Yosemite DP1. I have my backup Messages folder from Mavericks as well, but don't know how to merge the two.

Upgrade or fresh install? If it's upgrade, then they should have carried over. If fresh install, I thought it would only be messages from when the device was activated with it. Like I don't have any messages on my MacBook from before January from convos had on my iOS devices, as it was set up as brand new then.

The issue that causes this might have been fixed, but that doesn't mean the already recreated database will be merged.

I don't think it is feasible for a user to merge it. We have to hope that this affected enough people so that Apple will develop a repair tool that merges the incompatible database. (But I don't have high hopes. This is a beta; we're using it at our own risk.)

Already done, no success. They say that something has been corrupted and no way to recover. I hope someone else Will have an answer less useless

Sure, there is something that can be done: They could write a merge tool.

But that's not going to happen unless a large number of users are affected and report it. So everybody should try.

Of course, in theory, somebody else could write a merge tool. But that would be a significant amount of work and has the risk of further corruption.

Merge worked

Thanks for that link - the step by step instructions at the bottom of that page worked for me to merge two different databases.

It's worth noting that inconsistencies seem to appear when this database gets out of sync because there is an archive history of messages that is used by spotlight - so even if your chat.db is screwed using the search function in Messages can/may show archived messages.
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages/Archive

Hi all - I know this is an old thread, but I'm having this exact same issue and I'm hoping someone can help me, as I've tried everything and am going a little nuts at this point. I'm in a situation where I have both the regular chat.db files and the chat.db.incompatible files in my Messages folder within my user library, and I just can't get my Messages app to recognize the "incompatible" files, which are the ones that contain my entire message history. As such, I'm really hoping there's a way to merge in the old "incompatible" files with the regular chat.db files. I found the Github link posted above, but I was hoping someone could explain it a little more for me, as I'm not someone who's well versed in running scripts out of the Finder.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I merged them because Ive got the same files that you do . Of course also working on a Mac . It worked ! If it doesnt work then be sure youre able to unmerge within the Mac OSX .

I'm glad it worked for you, that's very encouraging! However, the instructions on the linked page are a bit above me...I'm pretty savvy when it comes to this stuff but I've never worked with scripts like that. How, exactly, do I merge them? Any extra help with this would be so, so appreciated...I'm seriously about to pull my hair out over this! :(
