Hey all,

I have been lurking on these forums all day, attempting to dig up some information that might help me fix my problem. For the last 4 or 5 days iMessage has been completely unreliable. I'm getting a message through maybe 15% of the time. I am using an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1. I do not currently have a texting plan, and I have text messages blocked. The reason is that I only ever really text with my girlfriend, who has an iPhone, so I decided to save the $20/month.

It's been going great until this past Thursday when iMessage all but stopped working. I have tried so many things from resetting my network settings, to restoring the phone, to messing with all sorts of internet-suggested tricks like turning off WiFi and flicking iMessage on and off. This issue is persisting across both cellular data and wifi.

Is there anything I can do, or is this a problem on Apple's end? I thought about contacting them directly, but could not find a method that isn't tied to some warranty.

I joined the forum to try and find this out myself, i'm not impressed with imessage at the minute! I too have restored my phone, reset network settings, changed the dns, etc, etc. and still have problems on both wifi and cellular! Its really really bugging me...

How about the other persons reception? I know that this sometimes cause a problem with delivery and resulted in the message just being sent as a text.

Yeah, IMessage has been working fine for me, I know a lot of times if the person you are trying to send to is in an poor reception/3G area, it will go through as an text instead.

glad i'm not the only one. My fiance and i have been having some real problems lately. Well more with her phone than mine, but i always end up getting about 40% of her messages both in text and iMessage.

It only started about sometime last week.

I'm getting "Not Delivered" on all my messages, from either my AT&T iPhone or my Verizon iPad, but the messages themselves are going through.

Annoying, though,

I had trouble this morning with imessage, although the message did go through as SMS. Later messages came through with imessage. I believe both people have to be using 3G for imessage to work. If someone is on wifi but without an active connection, it will probably go through as sms unless it's not a phone, then i guess it would spit out errors.

It worked seamlessly for me (iPhone 4S) and my wife (iPhone 4) until the iOS 5.1 update, now I frequently get not delivered when texting her and she has messages that her phone says are delivered that I never get.

Once broken I have disable iMessage and re-enable it for it to work again, which will lasts a day or two then it fails again.

I have unlimited texts anyway so I've just given up and disabled iMessage for now.
