iMessage Notification

I just got the iPhone 6 on release day after always having androids, so if this is a common issue please forgive me.

I don't always receive notification if I get a text message. I could be texting back and forth with someone and realize after a while that they never responded, only to find a new message from them. Is there anything that I can do to fix it? My settings all look correct. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

leaving iMessage open can cause this issue...always try to go back to the home screen. Also, another phone or iPad tied to the account could get the message and if someone clicks it, it may not respond to your phone if it didn't yet. This is not a common issue, so keep an eye on it.

Can someone else pass some info if you have seen this before?
