iMessage on Android via AirMessage

Anyone tried this? Requires running a service on MacOS and exposing the service to the internet via router port forwarding although per-app VPN is probably more secure.

I read about this yesterday. I'm very curious to try it out but would have to set up a virtual MacOS machine on my PC. I don't want to leave my PC on 24/7 for this either. No idea if app data (message history, etc.) is backed up in the app or on the server side. If the latter, would the server send all the data to my (new) Android phone if I switch devices or have to do a factory reset? I consider myself lucky that I've never had any SMS vs. iMessage hiccups when switching back and forth between phones...this seems like a lot of work. Especially if you need to set up a virtual MacOS. Still, curious haha...

Do you know of anyone who has tried it?

I'm not sure it's even worth trying if Apple can easily close whatever loophole they're using. I don't know it well enough technically to be certain, though.

That's the beauty of this approach... there's no "loophole" to close.

Although I have my iMac on and available 24/7, I've already broken free of iMessage hassles that I'm not about to go back.

Yes, I just installed this and it actaully works great. You have the airmessage software running on your mac, and have to leave your mac running 24/7. Opening a port up on your router and point to the internal ip of your machine which you need to set static. Setup Dynu DNS with an agent running on the MAC as well and it will update your IP info when it changes automatically so you never lose connection. You get a web dns name like website@dynufree.dns and you point your app on your phone to that address. With the password you set in airmessage. All works. I get updates and instant text from imessage like I would on my iPhone.

haven't tried it yet, but it does sound good

currently I have an iphone 5 jailbroken on 8.4.1 with remote messages connected to my pc via usb using itunnel_mux

It is mostly reliable and impressive, offering extra features like attaching pics/files from the pc itself. It is not reliable over wifi because it seems to sleep even when plugged in. In theory you could broadcast it over the web like airmessage does, but I don't.

It works well enough that I havent tried airmessage, I'm a bit worried about the security.
