I use iMessage on my mac (forward texts from my iphone). How come I cannot search my messages by name? For instance, I want to type in friends name " John" in the search bar in iMessage, to pull up his name so i can message him. It was an existing conversation already adn I have already entered this guy's name in my contact book on both iphone AND mac. But it does not work. When I type in "John" it only pulls up the messages in the conversations that have "John" in it. But I can't pull up the contact name itself. The only way I can message john is to create a message , type john, and then create and it will pull up the message to John, that was already there in the first place.

This used to work on my mac but now it does not. Maybe it's the update to big sur that caused this?

Using Big Sur 11.1. On my iMac, if I search for "John", results in the left column of iMessage app first shows anyone named "John", then below that any conversations that mention the name "John" and then photos/attachments below that are related to any conversations with someone named "John". Behaviour is as expected here so not sure what is happening on your end.
