My iMessages are all out of sync across my Macs and iPhone. Tonight I've deleted all my messages on my Macs and on my iPhone and then reset my iPhone. they've now all come back again which is driving me mad. I've deleted them again but its still showing over 17k messages in the cloud.

Any idea how I can delete them for good to stop them coming back.

If you really want to delete all your messages you can go into the iCloud settings, then manage storage, then Messages and choose disable and delete.

yeah I've seen that option but It looks like I have to keep it switched off for 30 days for it to delete and I don't not want to use iCloud messages I just want to get rid of historical messages that just keep re downloading.

last night I deleted all from my laptop and phone but this morning I fired up desktop Mac and instead of deleting the messages automatically it kept them and then re downloaded them to my phone.

if I keep iCloud messages switched off on all devices will I still get iMessages through on all devices but does it then mean they technically won't be in sync? which they aren't anyways but I suppose I could do that for 30 days till it fully deletes off iCloud and then once that's done I can enable messages again?

I can't see anything to delete in iCloud.com either.

It’s been awhile since I had it off, but I believe messages will still forward over to other devices, but if you delete said messages off one device they won’t delete off of others. Meaning you’d have to delete them on each device.

Once the messages fully delete from iCloud then if you turn them on, it should upload and merge the messages which should get them to sync.

Then again they should be syncing now so who knows.

yeah seems to be working great with it switched off now and in better sync than before which is odd. its a pain having to delete off each device but not to bad.

I think once the 30 days is up and it auto deletes from the cloud I'll switch it back on and hopefully will be fine.
