iMessage is intermittent when trying to contact my friends. Sometimes iMessage works but sometimes the message (to the same person) goesw SMS. Will it only work if both sender and receiver have either wi-fi or 3G available?

if you're in spotty coverage, and it can't send the message over the data network in a set amount of time, I believe it's 30 seconds (you have no control over this time limit) it will default to SMS, so if your recipient is out of range at the time you send your message, it will roll-over to SMS.

there is a setting in settings-> messages for "send as SMS" if you turn that off, it will prevent the roll-over, but may make the message fail.

iMessage works over 2G, 3G, 4G, and WiFi, but only if (Internet) data is correctly functioning (ie: your device must have an IP address).

You need both to have some type of internet connection; if in a spotty area it may get sent/received by SMS too.

I had been using iMessages through EDGE access on T-Mobile for a few years. It works through all Internet services.

You both do not need to be on the same connection (ie. if you are on 3G, the recipient has to be on 3G). As long as you both have an internet connection (whether it's wi-fi, 3G or Edge), the iMessage should go through.

wow, were you on the pre-pre-pre-release?

iOS 5 was released 9 months ago, and announced about 13 months ago.

since you're on the early release cycle, when's the :apple:TV getting apps?

Haha, whoops, mistyped by a few years! I meant I've been using iMessage on T-Mobile ever since iOS 5 was released. :)

I think I'll keep my Apple TV app information close to my chest; I don't want to unduly influence Apple stock.
