Imessage Problem

For some strange reason i cant send an imessage to a number from my mac any reason why , also i cant get my picture to show up next to my name in the chat window even though its setup and visible on my iPad. Its annoying now the other person cant see my profile pic any solutions.

update whenever i try to send to a mobile number from my mac it says the number is not registered with imessage but it must be as its mine and people can message me fine.

sorted it didnt go and change it in the messages menu in iMessage. still new to the mac dont know where things are.

Your recipients must have their phone number AND their @me.com email address authorized in iMessage or Message settings. If they don't, you will have problems. The email is the most important.
