Anyone else running into problems with iMessage? I have twice now. In the first instance, a friend of mine received an iMessage text from me of three periods (...) that I did not send. In the second instance, I was iMessaging with one of my family members on Thursday evening, and an unknown third party interjected into our conversation saying that he was receiving our texts. We were able to correspond with him in the thread, and all three parties were able to communicate. The unknown third party gave me his phone number (in the iMessage thread), and the number was unknown to either me or the person I was messaging with, but he was located in the same city that I was. For now, I have turned iMessage off and am sticking with SMS/MMS. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Something similar to your second issue happened to me last night, and it was very disturbing. I was having an iMessage conversation with a friend and suddenly he was responding to things I hadn't typed. On my screen, the messages looked like they came from me (i.e., they were on the right-side of the screen), but I wasn't typing them. Whoever typed them seemed confused as well. It was like having crossed wires in the old telephone system.

Everywhere, yet nowhere.
Just one comment, that the ... comes up when the other person in your conversation is typing something or has the cursor active in the text box where you type. It goes away if once they hit send or if they close imessage.

Does iMessage require both phones to be connected to 3G or WiFi at the same time? I notice that sometimes it still sends as a text message, and then a couple of messages later switches back to iMessage.

I always thought that Apple's servers stores the message until it's deliverable.

I seem to recall a prior thread with similar symptoms. If I recall correctly, it had to do with the unknown third party being someone who had purchased an iPhone from the person who created the thread.

I had a similar situation with iMessage turned on but while having a conversation with someone who was NOT on an iPhone. She thought I was messing with her...

That could explain it, if it was never properly wiped, they might have their own SIM card in, but could be receiving them at the old email associated with that phone.

I have been having a problem getting messages from my husband. He will text (iMessage) me and my phone doesn't show a preview that I got a message. When I look at my messages, they are there, but on the right side of the screen as though I sent them. My son sent a message to me today and it came through the same way, on the right side of the screen, with no preview, but the message he sent shows it came from my husband. Lastly, a couple of the messages sent from them show up on my phone that they were sent from MY phone number. Not sure if this matters, they are together on a plan with AT&T and I am on a seperate plan with Verizon. We just shut off iMessage in hopes this will correct the problem, does anyone have any suggestions??

The Solution

Someone else is using the same itunes login as you...

To confirm this go to
>Settings>messages>Receive at

Once in receive at you will see your number and an email... select your phone number! If you cannot select your phone number because it is being verified then just wait...

You need to create a different itunes account and sync to that... this is why you are getting other peoples messages because you have both synced from the same account or your friend has synced from a different account

This has not solved my situation. I still get people telling me that they get an errant text message from an unknown person where it looks like the message is coming from me. It's really odd and disturbing.
