Quick question. I know that iMessage allows a user to see when someone is typing to them (...) while they're in the chat window, but is there any way a user could be alerted of someone messaging them when they're NOT viewing the conversation?

I ask because a couple of times an acquaintance has asked me "yes?" when I'm just beginning a conversation with them. Wasn't sure if they had a random app/were aware a feature I wasnt, or if it's just been coincidence and they happened to have opened our chat at that moment in time as well.

Thanks!

No, not possible.

It doesn't even really show active typing. Just that they have the app open and their cursor is in the box to type. Those little .... will disappear if they just close the app.
