Quick question - I have on my phone, my email and phone number setup to receive at - on my Mac I only appear to be able to set my email. Am I missing something or does everyone need telling to text my email instead of my mobile number?

Cheers.

Eventually Apple will be merging the email and phone number for iMessage. it'll probably happen when iOS 6 comes out this autumn (Fall for you Americans), so it'll come to Mountain Lion in an update, presumably 10.8.2

Yes everyone needs to send it to your email if you want it on non-phone devices. Easiest way is to set your reply-to address as the email address.

The good news however is that this annoying issue is fixed in iOS 6/Mountain Lion - I think they are clever enough to deliver it to all devices, at least from what i've read!

Yes, with iOS 6 they will be linked.

This obviously requires support on the phone side, to prevent (in an easy way) people from adding other people's numbers to their accounts.

Yeah see I'm running Mountain Lion GM and can't see an option for it yet sadly. I'm assuming they'll just merge them under iOS6 then. Oh well!

Yeah, I'm running iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion GM and can't find the option to merge. Makes the Messages app in Mountain Lion pretty useless since it is not technically synched up with the iOS app. Really hope Apple does something about this soon!!

Anyone have this working yet? I have iOS 6 running on both my iPhone and iPad, and they both sync with the phone number, but Messages on ML will not do this.
