iMessage shows only number no contact name

I updated the new phone using a phone to phone transfer. My old phone has the contacts backed to iCloud. Using the new phones, I see the contacts in my contact list however when looking at iMessage, some appear only as a number with no contact name. Any suggestions?

my buddy had this issue last night after doing an android to iOS setup on a family members phone and importing all contacts into iCloud. and I get the issue from time to time too. maybe try deleting and re-saving the contact info again. that or a reboot may help.

My contact is also appearing wacky on other people’s phones. Sometimes I’m listed as the name they have given me, but at times they see my phone number in lieu of the name in their phone book.

I get the same thing when texting.. sometimes the contact name will disappear and only the number remains in the conversation.. I do a hard reboot and the name reappears. I think it has something to do with the carrier possibly putting a "+" sign in front of the number
