I have an iPhone but I still use my Google Voice account for SMS so I can access and search from any web browser on any platform my sms history. Please tell me there's a web interface for my iPhone sms and imessages. This is a no-brainer. I just refuse to accept Apple has not thought of this. With my Google Voice it is sooo nice, invaluable really, to be able to send/receive from a standard browser and to be able to search my sms history from years past. ???

If Sprint didn't suck I might try that. Not to mention Google doesn't know what it wants to do long term with Google Voice.
This would mean that Apple would need to store iMessages on servers somewhere and be able to access them to serve them up to people anywhere basically. That would go against the iMessage platform design that has been set to be that iMessages are encrypted and not stored anywhere essentially.
In your opinion you are willing to trade that privacy and security for the convenience you are looking for, but in the opinion of others they might not--but even that aside, it's not now the service has been set up and would go against what the service has promised.
Then how does Apple keep iMessages synced between devices currently if it does not store those messages in the cloud already?
This sux! This is so un-cloud-ish, surprising in such a cloud-driven world. So screw Apple's iMessage. Can't I tell my iPhone to do classic sms via my carrier and bypass apple altogether?

Personally I would love what you describe. My messages are way less private to me than, say, my emails, my photos, or my calendar data, and those all on the iCloud servers already, so whatever. It'd be nice if they gave us the option, at least. Just like how people can choose to not use iCloud for their calendar (storing them "On my Mac" instead), it'd be nice if those of us concerned about security could just choose not to use iCloud integration. I value keeping the record of my messages above everything else, and it's far too easy to accidentally delete a thread. Plus, I really would love having access to older message threads via Messages on my Mac - i.e., threads that pre-date the OS X Messages app itself.
Web access for iMessages is never going to happen, one feature I would love is the ability to backup and restore your messages separately. This would allow you to wipe your device, set it up as new and then restore your messages without restoring everything else.
Apple doesn't have to store messages on a server to achieve this- it could sync them from your devices like how whatsapp does. It's limited in that one of your devices needs internet but better than nothing. The web just acts as a front end for what's on and happening on your device
Same thing with adding a new device, the history could come from an existing device
Why couldn't they make a web app inside your iCloud account? Like your contact/mail/photos/Pages etc when you log into icloud.com

Sadly....the answer is they want you to buy a Mac. Messages are a killer feature!
Don't take me wrong I would LOVE it ... not going to happen. It's the same thing with iOS app development ONLY on a Mac....
