iMessage sync

How come I don't see the same messages on my computer as my phone? for some reason whenever I use my phone to text and then when I get home and want to continue my conversation in iMessage I don't see my recent conversation on my computer.

Do you have Messages sync turned on in the iCloud settings of both devices?
