My wife is having a problem since the upgrade to iOS18, actually she got the new 16P, but when I text her now it shows:

Code:
Maybe: My name
To you & My name
The Message.

This morning I removed my contact and sent the latest version of my Card but I am not sure how to resolve this as nothing else changed in the contact arena. We also tried iOS 18.1 PB and still seeing the problem.

Any thoughts?

As a test, add the phone number to another contact already on the device (and remove it from the current contact). Then, send a text message to test it. Does that make a difference?

Once the test is completed, revert the contact details...

Out of interest do you both have contact key verification turned on?

You may need to complete manual verification if you have changed device. Possibly maybe …

You can do that by adding or updating the code on the contact card as shown on this link.

When it’s done you should see a tick next to the contact name in messages.

And… no more maybe: Someone

Same issue with me and my wife - it’s not happening with any other contact or in text groups. Neither of us have contact key verification. I thought 18.1 would fix this bug but I guess not.

If you're still struggling with this glitch, try this. This worked for me juts now after DAYS of racking our brains trying to figure it out.

Go into the Message thread
Tap on the person you're messaging's name at the top
Tap on Info on the right
This brings up the Contact list entry
Their phone number should be marked as "Recent"
If it's not - Tap on Message on the left and select their cell number
It should put you back into the thread, send a test message
Now if you go back and tap on the person's name ->Info you should see their cell number marked as "Recent"

Hopefully that fixes it for you!

So sadly this fixed it then overnight. It undid itself.

I am relegated this is a bug, I've tried every fix posted across the web and here and to be honest they fix it for a short period but come back. I am hopeful this will be fixed in 18.2 but we will see.

This should actually fix it. Either turn off Siri contact suggestions, or maybe try to delete and re-create your wife's contact. Could it be you saved her number without the international prefix or something? So the Caller ID coming in doesn't exactly match what's stored in the contact?
My wife’s contact has been saved with no changes for years and this has only started since the update to iOS 18.
I did try the link above but it made no difference at all.

So you turned off Siri suggestions in contacts and it didn't stop doing that?

Also, what does it do if you delete her contact? And what about if you re-create her contact after that?
