I have encountered a problem with iMessage, which happens when I click the icon in the upper right corner of the iMessage app to start a conversation. When I start typing a name to find a particular group of people, some of the entries have phone numbers for some members of the group rather than names. This is true even though the people associated with those numbers are in my contacts. Furthermore, on the main iMessage screen the group chats show names rather than numbers. What can I do to make sure that names appear rather than phone numbers when I try to start a conversation?

I live in the USA and my contact numbers omit the international dialing code (+1). When I travel out of the country and am using roaming data, iMessage seems to lose the association between the name and number. If I go to Contacts and edit the number to add the (+1) the name comes back. Is this your problem?

I also live in the USA. I traveled out of the country last summer, and this seems to be a new problem. But I’ll try that. Thank you.
