Hey guys.

I am using iMessage both on iPhone and on my Mac, both associated with my phone number so everything is in sync. Now when using imessage to Chat with a friend on my mac, my phone lights up and blinks everytime i get a message on there. While i am on the mac, i would like to disable that since to me its absolutely useless and only drains the battery. Is there any way to do that?

That wouldnt be a pretty solution if you go back and forth... i was thinking of a more automatic solution... :(

It is a small annoyance for me, especially when the two devices are in the same room. But I equate it to the same reason why Mail won't auto-update the unread message count without launching it on the iOS device.

smart programming would have been to activate notification on the device from which you sent your last message, and 30s later if still unread buzz other devices.

and by notification, i mean just the buzz/noise, the message should still arrive on all devices as instantaneously as possible.

the absolute worst situation is when you are talking to someone on the computer, and then your phone starts buzzing in the other room, and its actually new replies arriving on the phone, and for some reason taking minutes longer to get to the computer. nothing says "ease of use" like having to go into another room and read a reply on a different device.

Normally the message marking is automatic. When I have a conversation and I write from my computer, occasionally I'll hear my "new message" tone on my iPhone or iPad, but it's pretty rare, and a lot of the time the tone cuts mid-way (presumably because it detects that the message was already read). It may be worth noting that the Messages window must be your active window in order for the message to be marked read; if the computer receives the message but you're not looking at it, it seems like you'll still receive the message on other devices.

As a bit of clarification, when I say "mark as read" I'm not referring to the "read receipt" option. I mean that it tells Apple's servers that you've read the message. Your other devices will still receive the message, but they won't make a tone, and they won't display that there are unread text messages.

Mine used to work properly until today. Even if the Messages window was in the background it used to show the bubbles on the dock icon and the phone never beeped. Now unless the Messages window is in the foreground the phone always beeps and bubbles never show in the dock.

does anyone know of an application that sends all text and calls to the computer regardless of platform. I'd like to respond to text and calls from people who aren't on apple devices too.
