EDIT:

Resolved this already, luckily. I had facetime turned off Under settings>General>restrictions. As soon as i turned that on again, it asked for my facetime login and iMessage login.

Odd that iMessage should be linked to the facetime settings...

-------

Has anyone else come across this?

Within settings, I can slide iMessage to "On", but nothing happens. I get no message about activation, no additional settings options appear. If i then use the messages app or double-tap>close settings it reverts to off! I seem to be completely unable to use iMessage. Everything else in iOS 5 is working fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers.

That's strange; I didn't even need to touch settings for iMessage - it just started sending messages to friends with iOS5 as iMessages.
